They say that in their lifetime, an Arctic Tern can fly a distance equivalent to three round trips to the moon

Which is another way of saying I want to see it all. To lift off
like there are wings between my shoulders. To make the miles
mean something. I want to learn a new language and surprise
myself when it tumbles from my lips. Touch down on crumbled
soil. Get lost on back roads, watch the stars eat the sky. I want to
know what it feels like to wake on a balcony in the north of Spain,
sun tripping over the waves. I want to wade into the water as it
glitters. Eat pan con tomate and taste the thin spread of fresh
tomatoes. Catch a wisp of garlic. I want to blush like an heirloom
at the touch of my own aliveness. I want to become the entire
distance between my life and my longing.
